Have you ever had moments where you feel like you are just running from one thing to the next? Moments where you get to the end of the day, wondering did you accomplish anything today? Do you feel like the task are ruling you instead of you them? In my regular job as a pastor, there seems always to be something that can be done. It feels like I have more things in my personal and professional life I would like to do than time. At the same time, there is a challenge what should I be doing.
There was a day I would have sticky notes all over the desk or wall of all the things I needed to do. I remember my wife saying, “Matthew you got to change, look at this mess.” Nowt here may still be a mess on my desk, but I have learned some things along the way in productivity.
I am learning is it not always about getting more done in my life, but it is about getting the right things done.
I will be the first to admit, I do not have this all figured out or am I perfect. However, my four rhythms are something I continue to push myself to come back to. In a way, they are part of centring myself to gain focus.
We all have systems in our life. For example, when you get up generally, we do the same routine. When we get dressed, we have a way of going about it. We all organize our calendar or not, but both are a system.
Two questions we need to start with:
Where am I at? And are my current systems getting me what I want?
There are 4 Rhythms that I have developed that are not unique to me. I have picked things up from others and adapted. However, over the years these rhythms when I stick with them, tend to help me reach my goals, stay focused, and celebrate.
4 Rhythms to Strengthen Personal Productivity
1)Yearly
2)Quarterly
3)Weekly
4)Daily
Each of these represents a system that I use to help organize myself. I will explain more in the next post. However, the rhythms involve pausing for a period to review, reflect, and plan,
Someone one once shared with me “Victory does not happen by accident.” We have to be intentional with our life.
What do you struggle with your productivity?
