A Myth Financial struggling Pastor believe

Financial struggling pastor and a myth they believe

One of the podcasts I listen to is https://smalltownbigchurch.com/ with Jon Sanders.

In Episode 309, “The myth of the starving pastor,” he askes some great questions.

I have come to appreciate the questions that Jon is asking as he looks to challenge pastors and ministry leaders in how we do and who we are.

Jon points out one major challenge that a pastor or, I would say, missionary or full-time Christian work that the church pays. A significant issue is a mindset that you have to earn less or be, as he says, a Starving pastor.

Here are the highlights

  • Largely a self-imposed idea that I should have less
  • Also accepted by many in the church who think the pastor is not allowed to be financially successful.
  • Is it ok for pastors to be financially successful?
  • Do you pause before buying a car, thinking, is it too fancy?
  • The wealth does not have to come from the supporting church.
  • Can you have multiple sources of income?
  • Are there different ways we should be looking at income?
  • Is it ok for you to be wealthy.
  • We do not have a lot of models of pastors thriving financially
  • Is it good for a pastor to have multiple streams of income?
  • 5 reason its good for pastors to do well financially

I think the big question we need to ask is what it means to be financially healthy for pastors. How would you define that? Too many people working full-time in ministry are scraping by, and that is not ok.

Jon challenges our view of ourselves and being financially healthy.

Pastor, God has also called you to steward your financial resources. Your family deserves it; the church deserves it. Your financial house affects your ministry.

The big question is, what does it mean to be financially healthy.

Here is how I can help you.

1) Come alongside, and help leaders steward their financial house.

2)Help you think about and organize your financial house to care for your family, so you can keep doing ministry.

3) Coach ministry leaders to maximize their financial situation in different financial seasons of ministry to ensure a solid financial foundation for your family.

4)Share financial products that can help you reach your goals.
